Who are the 24 Elders of Revelation 4?

經過 Stephen Davey

Darries asked: Who are the 24 elders in Revelation 4:4 or what is that representing?

Great question, Darries.

Before I answer your question, I have a sermon from that passage. You can LISTEN HERE

In seeking to identify the twenty-four elders mentioned in Revelation 4:4, it’s helpful to know that the number twenty-four is often used in Scripture as a representative number. It’s used to represent a host of people.

For instance, there were twenty-four officers of the sanctuary representing the twenty-four divisions of the Old Testament priests. Israel had thousands of priests, but they were represented by the twenty-four.

There were also twenty-four divisions of singers in the temple, representing several mass choirs in 1 Chronicles 25.

So, I believe that the twenty-four elders are a representative group, and what they represent is the church. The church will have been raptured to Heaven prior to that time, and will be praising God in the court of Heaven and before the throne of God.

The lyrics to what we will be singing are down in Revelation 4:11, as we sing:

Worthy are you, our Lord and God . . .

This is very personal worship. The promise of Christ to the church has come true. He promised us that we will be robed in white garments (Revelation 3:5 and 3:18); that we will be rewarded with crowns upon our heads (Revelation 3:11); and that we will be seated on thrones (Revelation 3:21). The twenty-four elder in John's vision represent all of us who will be doing exactly what is described.

These twenty-four are not angels; nor are they the twelve apostles and the twelve sons of Israel, as many have speculated. Due to their garments and their crowns and the thrones, which are specifically promised to the church, and because of their personal worship of their Lord and God, I’m convinced they represent the company of the redeemed, you and me, worshiping the Lord following the rapture of the church.

Why is this important? This scene brings us great comfort. During the tribulation, as God pours out his wrath, the church is singing. We’re not terrified of His wrath because we will have been rescued by faith in Christ. So while the whole earth experiences the wrath of God in utter terror, the church will be in Heaven, secure in our place and position, with our reward and white robes, exulting in their worship of sovereign God.

The book of Revelation is one of the most fascinating and mysterious books in the Bible. It is filled with imagery and symbolism that can be difficult to decipher. One of the most intriguing images in Revelation is the group of 24 elders that appear in several passages throughout the book. In this article, we will explore the identity and significance of the 24 elders in Revelation.

Who are the 24 Elders in Revelation?

The 24 elders are first mentioned in Revelation 4:4, which describes a vision of the throne room of God. John, the author of Revelation, sees "twenty-four elders sitting on thrones, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads." These elders are described as worshiping God and singing praises to Him.

Later in the book, the 24 elders are mentioned again in Revelation 5:8-10, where they are seen holding harps and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. They sing a new song, declaring the worthiness of the Lamb (Jesus) to receive power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise.

The identity of the 24 elders has been a subject of debate among scholars and theologians. Some believe that they represent the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles, symbolizing the unity of the old and new covenants in Christ. Others believe that they are a heavenly council of angelic beings or represent the glorified Church.

However, there are a few key characteristics of the 24 elders that may shed light on their identity. First, they are described as sitting on thrones, which suggests that they hold positions of authority and judgment. Second, they are clothed in white garments and wear golden crowns, which are symbols of victory and righteousness. Finally, they are seen offering prayers and singing praises to God, which suggests that they are intimately involved in the worship and service of God.

I believe that the twenty-four elders are a representative group, and what they represent is the church. The church will have been raptured to Heaven prior to that time, and will be praising God in the court of Heaven and before the throne of God.

What is the significance of the 24 Elders in Revelation?

The 24 elders play an important role in the book of Revelation, serving as witnesses to the unfolding of God's plan of salvation. They offer worship and praise to God, declare the worthiness of the Lamb, and participate in the heavenly vision of God's throne room.

Their presence in the book of Revelation also suggests that God's plan of salvation is not just for individuals, but for a community of believers. The 24 elders represent the faithful community of believers who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and are now seated in heavenly places with Christ.

Conclusion

The 24 elders in Revelation are a mysterious and intriguing image that has captured the imagination of scholars and theologians for centuries. While their identity may be debated, their significance is clear. They represent the faithful community of believers who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and are now seated in heavenly places with Christ, offering worship and praise to God for all eternity.

I believe 12 of the elders are the 12 apostles. Jesus said in Mathew 19: 28that the apostles would sit with him on 12 thrones judging.

I believe the 24 elders represent the 12 apostles from the New Testament and 12 prophets from the Old Testament. Moses, Elijah and Jeremiah just to name a few.

[From WI: While we disagree with your comments, we’re glad you engaged with our content.]. I believe that the 24 "Elders" in the book of Revelations dressed in white (thc crystals) with crowns (buds) are the 24 states that are currently legalized recreationally for cannabis. There is something here in the decision Florida is about to make legalizing it. More study is needed to determine the course or what the author is trying to tell us on whether or not to legalize cannabis and whether more religious importance or church affiliation needs to be constructed with cannabis, it is not so much recreational, but maybe this is time to recognize it's religious and spiritual effects because this is not the way God wanted this plant to be celebrated, it is to be celebrated back in the temple, churches and mosques. Cannabis needs to be brought back religiously here and be worshiped at the temple mount and the dome of the rock and church of holy sepulchre to promote world peace. Not recognizing the religious and spiritual powers of cannabis is what makes cannabis dangerous and that's the education that needs to happen in this country and Florida needs to initiate this religious cannabis public relations campaign nationwide. Not acknowledging its spiritual connection and grouping it with alcohol and just using the argument in the media that it should be legalized solely for the purpose so alcoholics and opioid addicts can have a safer alternative is denial and not responsible for the youth and will create more problems. I mean, if your gonna legalize it, might as well do it right just like Florida does everything else as an example for the country

I believe that the 24 elders are the representatives of other world that did not sin. When Satan took this world from Adam he became the representative of earth.

Everyone gets the 24 elders of Israel wrong and it's quite plain if you know scripture.

David appointed them and Jesus the son of God- root and offspring of David reinstated the original 24 elders. These were named in 1 Chronicles 24 which is a quite simple way to remember them.

Zecharias- John the Baptist's father- descended from one of the original 24.

If people want to stop guessing who they are- they need to read 1 Chronicles 24 and the list of names is there and the orders of their service weeks can be found elsewhere.

These are the groomsman that arrive in the throneroom before the seals are opened (outlined in Jeremiah) and spoken of in Joel 2:16- they come before the children (of God) and those sucking at the breast (baby Christians) are called out of the bridal chamber (the grave).

These 24 elders were ascended to the throneroom on March 23, 2023- 1 Nissan on the Hebrew calendar which is the first day of harvest.

This is the harvest at the end of the age. They were gathered when the door in heaven was opened (Revelation 4) and the colors of Christ's throne are described (the Northern Lights) and these Northern Lights were seen as far south as New Mexico and North Carolina in the U.S.

The seals didn't start opening until September and these seal horses are the color of the altar of sacrifice- white smoke, fiery red flame, black coal and pale green- the color of a heated copper altar flame.

That's why the saints cry out UNDER THE ALTAR and only martyrs get the wedding week. This is a special ceremony ONLY held for those whose testimonies and work for the Kingdom of God and Christ were so relevant they were being slaughtered for it.

There are 6 raptures in Revelation (besides John's rapture to the vision in the throneroom):

1) 24 elders- 1 Nissan 2023
2) martyrs- 18 Elul, 2024
3) Moses and Elijah- 18 Elul, 2028
4) 144,000 martyrs from the early church- 18 Elul, 2031
5) martyrs of Israel and those who refused to take the mark for Christ's sake- Passover 2032
6) Alive and remaining BEHIND- Passover 2033 right before the 42 day (hour) destruction of Mystery (secret doctrine of Avodah Zarah) Babylon- Jerusalem as spoken of by Ezekiel 16 and 23

I really appreciate most of the comments I read. But the answer to this question is far from all that. The Twenty Four Elders are clearly explained in God's Word. And I wrote a book about it.

Charles Okomama 說:
The 24 elders aren't mysterious. They are Gods in their own rights. The creator brought them into existence along with the arch angels, the other angels. The 24 elders govern areas in creation. An elder for the waters, the air, the sun, moon, plants, animals etc. Psalm 82, Job 38. They were the ones the creator referred to as US in Genesis

#Repost Let's talk about paranormal Part 1- Oceanus If you don't believe in paranormal, afterlife, astral projections, out of body experiences and spiritual matters please exit this post. Thanks. I have lots of water encounters, some in dreams, some in real life written down in my book of dreams and paranormal kept safe. I see stuffs most people can't see. I usually have (OBE-out of body experience) and astral projections too sometimes while sleeping. Much as I dread water-so much that I can't even close my eyes in the showers, I usually dream and see lots of stuffs in water. I went to bed this particular night restless about a serious family problem and dozed off. Then I found myself in a rainforest-like jungle at night, the kind of jungle I see on TV in Amazon where there's all kinds of creatures and trees with roots so tall growing out of a swampy black river on both sides blocking daylight. I got scared and tried to wake up but couldn't. Something prompted me to go to the edge of the river. I went and saw in the dark by the ripples of the water that something was coming towards me. I waited terrified wondering if it is a crocodile or whale judging from the size of the ripples from the moonlight. It got close to my feet and stopped. All of a sudden, a black entity rose out of the water standing same height with me staring me in the eyes. It was so close I could smell it, smelt like fresh water fish. It was black shape of a well-built beard gang muscular man. His face was the color of fresh catfish, black and shiny. I could clearly see the features of a human male but everything was black and shiny like it was etched on a giant catfish. Few feet’s away I saw its tail. It was the size of large whale tail gently flapping. His eyes, both black as his skin without the white we humans have been expressionless. He had a flexible rod or staff in its hand. I said what is your name. He replied "OC" I thought this kind Papi-water like Greek gods Poseidon and Neptune is scary! He replied Poseidon is my little nephew. I am the god of ocean and all waters. I said Blood of Jesus!!! He smiled and repeated it to no one behind him. Suddenly I heard screeching laughter like bunch of monkeys then went silent again. I expected he'd disappear when I mentioned Jesus. He just watched me. Terrified he could read my thoughts I said are you going to harm me? He said no. He said you humans assume a lot about us. He actually had a Yoruba accent in his voice. And looked a little like my neighbor Korede. He said Jesus is our master too. He said in your Genesis when God said let us create man in our own image, (Genesis 1:26) who did you think he was talking to. I said his Angels. He said and you assume Angels reside in heaven only? I asked are you one of the fallen Angels? He kept quiet for a while then said why do you think God is referred to as God of gods and King of Kings? I said because he is the Almighty and most high. He said exactly. We are the gods he is God of. (Psalm 82) We were the ones carrying out his orders during creation.(Job 38:4-8). We cause earthquakes to swallow lands and lift ocean floor for tsunamis and withhold rains at his behest. (Psalm 103:20-21) Some of your forefathers knew how to command us to work for them especially the rainmakers. (Hebrews 1:14). But you humans will bear responsibility for every action you make us do. (Matthew 12:36-37) I say we have power to command you? He said God never took back the dominion he gave men. You humans always underrate your power to dominate everything in creation...(Romans 11:29) I was uncomfortably scared. He said fear not, I am on a mission. I said, ok? He told me something I can't post about and said as you wake up, you'll hear a music playing. Once it stops, open your front door you'll see a coin. Bring it to me. I said how? He said drop the coin in any river near you. I said OK. I was afraid to turn my back. He said "don't be afraid" again. I replied ok, OC. He gradually slid back into the water I turned to run and woke up in bed. As soon as I woke up our wall clock downstairs started chiming some nursery rhymes. I checked my phone, it was 2am. Then I remembered he said when the music stopped, I should open the front door and find a coin... I quickly googled Greek god of Ocean and gasped trembling when I recognize him in the picture in google. These sh.it exist and are real! (I'll tell you my real-life experience in Bar beach someday. Creepy!!!) His full name is Oceanus (OC)! I wrote what he told me down as with many others. Some about world events that happened exactly. Googled Picture of OC-Oceanus below. Contrary to cartoons depictions, he is black skinned-not white. 👇👇👇 To be continued... Post Original by Elizabeth Omonigho Asekome's Post December 29 2021 Bible books and chapters added by me.
