I Know My Rights!

There have been a lot of changes, conflicts and frustration along the subject of voting rights throughoutthe years. Voting rights have been granted and rescinded, restricted and loosened with catches andloopholes abounding among the states. What most people do not know or understand, however, is thatwe, as citizens, have no constitutional right to vote for President of these United States.

WHAT!?!

People love to say, with conviction, “I know my rights!”, but most of them don’t have any idea of whattheir rights are. There are a lot of assumptions about their constitutional rights, mostly from listening toother peoples’ rants about civil rights instead of reading the US Constitution themselves.

Each State had their own rules about who could vote

The constitution has a lot of phrases, clauses and amendments expressly stating way that people cannot be denied the right to vote because of race (effective 1870) or gender (effective 1920). Anyone over 18 years old can vote for their state legislators, the house members and senators, but the Constitution never explicitly ensures the right of the people to vote for President except for citizens of Washington DC.

Not everyone wanted equal voting rights.

The Constitution does require that Representatives be chosen and Senators be elected by “the People.” Aside from these requirements, though, the qualifications for voters are left to the states. Over theyears the make up of “The People” has been changed many times to include or exclude people that thestates have decided. As long as the qualifications do not conflict with anything in the Constitution, thatright can be withheld. For example, in Texas, persons declared mentally incompetent and felonscurrently in prison or on probation are denied the right to vote.

Everything changes with time

It is interesting to note that though the26th Amendment requires that 18-year-olds must be able to vote, states can allow persons youngerthan 18 to vote, if they chose to. Originally, every free person over 18 had a vote, but some statesexcluded women or blacks, or Native Americans or Asians or Catholics. Eventually, however, all thestates have included these groups.

Do you know your constitutional rights? You may be surprised to find out that you don’t know as muchas you think you know. Continue reading

Article Body:
If you live in the Atlanta area, why not consider hiring a personal chef? If you think hiring Georgia chefs is too hoity-toity, you may be surprised to discover that more people than ever before are opting to hire a chef for at least some of their meals. Here are five reasons why:
1. Atlanta personal chefs can save you money.
Yes, it seems counterintuitive, but you can actually save money when you hire a chef in Georgia. Think about how much money you spend each week picking up take-out, going out to dinner, and buying groceries at the store. Chances are, you and your spouse spend more than the cost of having a personal chef prepare five days worth of customized meals in your own home.
2. A personal chef can save you time.
Most people think that in-home chefs come to your home every day. In truth, they usually come one day each week and prepare five days’ worth of meals at once. They then package and store the other dinners so that all you have to do is reheat and serve. Imagine the time you can save – time that isn’t spent running to the store or piling the family in the car to go grab a bite.
3. A chef for hire can reunite the family.
Well, the chef herself doesn’t reunite the family, but gathering together for a family meal goes far in helping family members stay connected. With careers, errands, extracurricular activities, and time spent with friends, it’s all too easy to spend for family members to scatter to the four winds. With a personal chef, you can spend what little time you have together enjoying good food and catching up with one another.
4. A personal chef brings nutrition to the table.
All too often, nutrition takes a backseat to convenience. Personal chefs provide convenience without sacrificing nutrition. By using the best and freshest ingredients, you can work with a personal chef to come up with menu ideas that are both delicious and nutritious.
5. A party chef takes the stress out of entertaining.
Whether you’re having a dinner party for six or a brunch for sixteen, private event chefs in Atlanta can be a godsend. They can whip up exquisite meals that your guests will find memorable, and you can concentrate on ensuring that everyone has a good time. Private party chefs have the experience needed to create dishes that complement one another, as well as the ability to execute those dishes to perfection. If you need other help for the party, such as servers or bartenders, a personal chef should be able to provide you with reliable referrals.
Once you look into the costs and benefits of hiring a personal chef, you’ll quickly see that she will not only make your life easier, but will also make your life better.

5 Reasons To Grow Your Own Fruit And Vegetables

5 Reasons To Grow Your Own Fruit And Vegetables

Having your own vegetable patch or fruit garden was once commonplace, but fell out of favor as the food industry become more commercial and supermarkets began to take over. In recent years however, more and more people have started explore growing their own produce again. Here we give 5 reasons why you might consider starting your own kitchen garden.

– Freshness

Fruit and vegetables taste better and are healthier if eaten as soon as possible after picking. Most fruit you buy from supermarkets and the like is picked well before it is properly ripe, to extend shelf life, and this usually has an impact on flavor. Growing your own lets you taste the freshest possible produce as it’s meant to taste.

– Quality

Commercially grown crops are often selected for their high yields, uniform appearance and long shelf lives rather than for quality and taste. When you grow your own, you can concentrate on the quality rather than the economics.

– Price

Much supermarket fresh produce is hugely overpriced, despite their advertising claims. Growing your own from seed is about as inexpensive as you can get, and even growing from small plants you buy is likely to provide you better food at a lower cost. With many plants, you can use the seed from one growing season to provide plants for the next – a self sustaining cycle that will cost you only time and effort to keep going.

– Provenance

More and more people have concerns about how our food is produced, with chemical pesticides and GM food a particular worry. With your own vegetable patch, you know exactly where your food is from and how it was grown.

– Variety

There are literally thousands of different varieties of fruit and vegetables, but supermarkets tend to concentrate on only the most profitable and easy to sell. This means that our choice is often limited to a few select varieties of apple, for example, rather than the hundreds of traditional kinds that exist. Growing your own lets you pick the varieties you like the most, and experiment to find new ones you’ll rarely see on sale.

There is of course a downside to all this – it takes time and effort. In these increasingly busy times, we might not think we have the time to spare, but starting small with a few herb plants on your windowsill, or even the odd tomato plant, will give you a taste of growing your own and might even be enough to hook you into it for life!

Are Republicans More Patriotic Than Democrats?

ARE REPUBLICANS MORE PATRIOTIC THAN DEMOCRATS?

Let’s start with the words, “Republican” and “Democrat”. The founding fathers of

this representative republic saw democracy as the worst evil that could befall a

free country.

Republicans are for the good of the republic.

Democrats are for democracy, which is mob rule.

Democracy is described as two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for

supper.

Republicans believe in the Constitution of the United States, which is the basis for

our laws. A country without laws would fall quickly.

Democrats believe that laws should be flexible, that we should just kind of ignore

the laws we don’t like. Your beloved ruler, Barry O. ignores a LOT of our laws and

makes up several of his own laws, even though our U.S. Constitution does not

allow him that power. The liberal Supreme court also makes up new laws even

though the US Constitution does not allow them that power either.

Constitutionally, our federal government is WAY bigger than it should be, but has

been grown large in order to pander to special interest groups and organized

crime, (labor unions).

Example: The Department of Education. Totally worthless but set up to make

money for teacher union crime bosses. The states are supposed to be in charge of

their own education systems, as it used to be. Now, to stroke union bosses, there

is a National, and totally useless, Department of Education. We, the citizens of

each city, county and state, are charged a school tax. The school tax is collected

and sent to Washington to the Department of Education. The money filters around

there, the labor bosses get their cut, Then SOME of the money is sent back to the

states to support their schools. No sense in that and no constitutional basis for it,

but it keeps the union bosses rich and ensures that they will deliver votes to

Democrat candidates. (How many of you are aware that classes are being held in

mobile trailors instead of brick and mortar classrooms?)

Add in the Department of Energy, The Air Marshal Service, The Commerce

Department, The Interagency Trade Enforcement Center, The U.S. Department

of Agriculture, The Securities Exchange Commission, U.S. Election Assistance

Commission, Affirmative Civil Enforcement “ACE”, HUD and so many more that I

don’t want to waste time and space here. These are all completely supeflouous

agencies whose functions are either redundant, uncessessary or can be done

much more efficiently at the state level.

I have heard charges of conservative “name calling”, but that is the primary tool

of the left. Whenever a liberal is confronted with cold hard facts or logic, they

start screaming senseless words they have had drilled into them by the liberal

media.

“FASCIST!”,”NAZI!”, and their favorite, “RACIST!” (Printed in all capitals because

these words must always screamed by the rabid left) , I believe the worst name I

have heard a conservative call anyone is “liberal” or maybe “Democrat.” Show me

examples of conservatives calling names anywhere NEAR the names liberals call

conservatives. Please, if you are going to accuse, show me FACTS, not opinions. I

realize the concept of facts is pretty foreign to most liberals, but give it a try.

Reality isn’t really that scary.

Back to the original unsupported charges concerning patriotism…

Lets go to Websters…

1.a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests

with devotion.

2.a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, especially of individual

rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.

Let’s go to Wikipedia…

Patriots (also known as American Whigs, Revolutionaries, Congress-Men or

Rebels) is a name often used to describe the colonists of the British Thirteen

United Colonies who rebelled against British control during the American

Revolution. It was their leading figures who, in July 1776, declared the United

States of America an independent nation. Their rebellion was based on the

political philosophy of republicanism, as expressed by pamphleteers, such as

Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and Thomas Paine.

(Pamphleteers is colonialists version of bloggers)

As a group, Patriots represented an array of social, economic, ethnic and racial

backgrounds. They included college students like Alexander Hamilton; planters like

Thomas Jefferson; merchants like Alexander McDougall; lawyers like John Adams;

and plain farmers like Daniel Shays and Joseph Plumb Martin.

They are also the ones who conducted the Boston Tea Party, who oppose

oppressive taxation without representation. Our modern patriotic Tea Party

Members are also fighting against oppressive taxation without representation,

since our representatives are more committed to representing special interests

and Union members than they are about representing We, The People.

Liberal Democrats, however, are all for oppressive taxation, as it gives them more

money with which to buy the votes of Unions. It also supports the worship of

Obama as “Sort of a god”

My conclusion is, YES! Conservatives and TEA Party members ARE more patriotic

than liberal Democrats. There is a lot more I could say here, but I welcome any

LOGICAL and non-hysteric, name calling responses or criticisms to what I have

said here.

Everybody Loves A Quitter!

I smoked for 25 years and tried to quit several times.

I’ve got a new bride, I’ll quit for my wife’s sake. (That didn’t work)

I’m about to become a father, I’ll quit for my child’s sake. (That didn’t work either)

I finally realized that you can’t quit for anyone else. You have to be selfish about it and quit for yourself. My situation was that I was a singer in my youth. I was in a couple of bands and liked acting in Broadway musicals. I even had my shot in the Stuttgart Opera in Germany… I loved singing.

Several thousand packs and cartons of cigarettes later my voice was no longer what it was and I realized that I wanted to sing again… I wanted my voice back… so I determined that I would quit for ME!

A few times in the past I had tried the nicotine gums but they didn’t help. I hated the taste and I would smoke while chewing. I never really followed the directions or the program. This time I decided to try a patch and to follow all directions.

I read the program, set a quit date and determined to sing again.

On by first day as a non-smoker, I got up and headed for my coffee maker. With my first sip, I knew I couldn’t do it with coffee in my hand. That was one of my smoking triggers.

Have a cup of coffee, have a smoke.

Eat a meal, then have a smoke.

Have a beer, light up a smoke.

When I pass a certain billboard, I light up because I had just enough time for a smoke before entering work.

I had to make changes to eliminate my “Smoking Triggers”

So I poured out my coffee and poured a glass of apple juice.

I took a different route to work so I didn’t see that billboard.

I avoided my smoking friends during break time.

I cut out drinking beer.

With the support of my wife who realized my struggle and didn’t carp at me, I was finally able to quit. You get over the physical addiction to nicotine after about 4 days, but the hardest struggle is with the ritual of smoking.

YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR A WHILE!

My first day as a non-smoker was September 9th, 1995. Today I drink coffee, I drive in a smoke-free car, I live in a smoke-free home, I like to have a drink in the evenings, but I do not smoke. Every once in a while I get the urge to have a cigarette, a cigar, or to fill my meerschaum pipe, but then I remind myself of the struggle and anguish I went through before and I don’t want to go through that again.
